Ken Ficara: Old E harmonica, loops
Produced by Ken Ficara
Recorded on Park Place
Unlike most of the pieces in this collection, this one is cute and silly. It's also an accident. I was testing out some new settings on my octave generator (the amazing but tempermental POG 2) with an old E harmonica (first one at hand), and started playing with this bouncy little pattern. When I listened to the recording I was not only happy with the new settings, I really liked some parts of it. So I excerpted them and put them together into this piece. The rhythm loop is two overlapping loops of untreated harmonica. The lead line on the first part is pitch shifted and detuned slightly to give a chorus effect. On the second part, the lead line is doubled in the lower octaves with a bit of detuning. The third part's lead line is shifted down an octave and not detuned at all. All on the same harmonica.
