Once this old backyard was as big as can be
And this fig tree a sailing ship that took me out to sea
Every corner held a story that I couldn't wait to tell
Princesses and potions and secret magic spells
Funny how my feet will take me back to way back when
When mom could always make things right and dad was superman
Out the backdoor by the fence underneath the tree
I could go exploring and discover mysteries
Branches were my candles and pebbles were my pearls
And I could climb a tree and sail around the world
I'd find the treasure and slay the dragon in my travelling
Back when all my troubles were imaginary things
Butterflies were fairies and sparrows brought me joy
And I could make the simplest little thing into a toy
Up in that tree I was home safe and sound
Nothing can touch you with your feet off the ground
[Chorus]
I wonder if I can still climb up that tree
I wonder if that backyard's still big enough for me?
Can I still save the world on a warm spring afternoon?
Or did all my magic powers disappear too soon?
But now I watch you climb that tree and I know it still sails
And I can feel the magic when I listen to your tales
You show me where the treasure is and how to save the world
And I know it's all still there, in the mind of a little girl
Branches will be our candles and pebbles our pearls
WeÕll climb that old fig tree and sail around the world
We'll find the treasure and slay the dragon in our travelling
So many of our troubles are imaginary things
